Anne: [00:00:00] Hi, I am Anne, and I'm Helen. And welcome to Metaphysical Street Smarts. What is Metaphysical Street Smarts? Helen

Helen: Physical is everything you can see with your human eye. You can see, touch, feel, taste as a human. Metaphysical. Is that what you cannot see? Wifi microwave energy. When you feel somebody staring at you, you can't really feel eyesight.

Helen: So metaphysical is that what you can't perceive with the human eye? Street smarts means let's take the woowoo, the energetic, the airy fairy, and add it to logic so that you can have a better experience of yourself. In this one.

Anne: As always, we invite you to take what blesses you and leave the rest. We're so glad you're here.

Anne: Let's jump in. Hey. Hi Helen.

Helen: Hi

Anne: Anne.

Helen: How are you doing this week?

Anne: Hey, I'm doing [00:01:00] well. We went to our reservoir, we call it the beach, getting some sun and just enjoying another gorgeous day in summer. What's your temps there? Oh, we are. Well, my app says 89 degrees right now. It always feels warmer than that.

Anne: I honestly, I've stopped looking. I'm like, whatever, it's hot. I don't need to, I don't need to be miserable about it. I didn't realize you got that hot there. Yeah.

Helen: Yeah. That's a run here in Texas. Yeah. Where

Anne: are you

Helen: at? What, what are your attempts? Where Katie, the temps are, you know, over 90 every day.

Anne: Yeah.

Helen: You know, even at six in the morning, it's like pushing eight. It's close to 75, 80 every morning. It's like, whew. It's a little muggy.

Anne: Yeah. But my

Helen: flowers are happy.

Anne: Yeah. Hot house flowers, basically your whole area is a hot house. Yeah. You've got that humidity. We're in the, we're in that, we're in that desert.

Anne: So, uh, it still gets cool [00:02:00] ish at night, but yeah, we're kind of in the stage where the next. Two months. It's just gonna be hot and dry with the occasional rainstorm.

Helen: So beautiful where you are though. So what cosmic nudge, do you get 'em sometimes when you're out there walking or when you're with the kids?

Helen: Or do they come in quiet moments? When do the cosmic nudges tend to hit you?

Anne: Hmm. Yeah. Quite all of the above. You were right. Oh. My cosmic nudge for this week for this episode is to mention a fun little exercise that came up at the retreat that we were, that you did in May with Paige, and there was just a suggestion.

Anne: It might have even been Brie who said, if you're feeling stuck or looking for a new hobby, a good question to ask yourself is, what were you really good at as a kid? Where did you excel? [00:03:00] And we just took some time to write some things down for ourselves. And I enjoyed doing that because things came up that I didn't even think that I wouldn't normally say, oh, I was really good at that as a kid.

Anne: But as I was writing, the list got longer and longer. I was like, oh, I, there were lots of things that I enjoyed and lots of things I liked to do that I kind of forgot about. So it's been fun to kind of get to explore. A little bit more down the list.

Helen: I love that. And that's such a beautiful thing to, to give some time and attention and some focus, um, um, what you did enjoy as a, as a younger person, it really connects to that inner child energy, that creative, the, you know, children are amazed and things are exciting and magical.

Helen: And that curiosity, we all want to connect to that childlike light. Not childish, but childlike joy of being alive.

Anne: We can tend to [00:04:00] get away from that, but it's really the times when I feel most alive are when I am in that wonder Li life really is so magical. It's so nice to be able to drop into that. A childlike wonder, like you said,

Helen: it really is.

Helen: And then are you going to engage in any of the activities? Well, you do like walking, thinking, seeing, but anything else that you could share with us? We've

Anne: talked about it a ton, but I've been reading and then also trying to make room for writing and just making time to sing as well is such a good expression of whatever's in my body.

Anne: I loved to just sing relentlessly as a child, so just remembering that I get to do that, I don't know. Sometimes I think I just get stuck in my head and I'll be quiet for a while, but I, I've got space. I can let it [00:05:00] out. It's been fun.

Helen: I love it. It's nice. Um, when I think of your mother mission statement, fun and safe, and if you give that to yourself too.

Anne: Yeah, that's really how I try and live my life. I guess I'm not like hyperfocused on safety that I know of,

Helen: which is good, but just gotta take a lot of fun outta things.

Anne: Yeah, don't worry. I'm also risky. Um, but, well, I think there's somewhere between hyper safety and risky

Helen: that

Anne:

Helen: might've been thinking of.

Anne: Um, yeah, I suppose it depends on your definition of risky, but anyway, I, uh. Yeah, the fun is such a big thing for me. I was talking with our friend Kelsey as well, um, a couple of weeks ago, and we were talking about our relationships with money and I was like, oh, money For me. It's so fun. I love to have money and spread it and have it [00:06:00] come in and then give it right back and be so grateful for that.

Anne: Just the cycle and, and she was like, you really do not want to do anything that's not fun. Everything you do, the aim is fun. I'm like, yeah, it really is. That's, I just enjoy having fun. Surprise, surprise. And for, and that's really important to me. Fun is important to me, so

Helen: I love it.

Anne: It's fun to be, we always

Helen: told our kids, um, having fun is hard work.

Anne: Yeah. I think about that a lot. And to this

Helen: day, they don't. Think of work as a bad thing. Like we're happy to work it, it gives us so much pleasure and accomplishment and creativity and money and, you know, um, I guess that's the safe part. You take everything you need if you're going on a hike, you know, the, um, and we just love it, like it changed our perspective on work.

Anne: Yeah, I've been even applying that to [00:07:00] when I'm hiking and I want to build muscle and, uh, it takes getting up the hill. And if I wanna have sore legs, then I have to put in the work to have sore legs. So, yeah, if I wanna have Lucky, it's so much more

Helen: joyful when you can see it all as fun, isn't it?

Anne: Mm-hmm.

Helen: Okay. Not all the way there on housework, but.

Anne: Sure. Yeah.

Helen: But I, I'm always very grateful for the supplies and tools that I have. Mm-hmm.

Anne: There are ways to make even that fun. I mean, it's always, at some level going to be a necessity and it could still, there are still ways to make fun. Well, it's always fun

Helen: after.

Anne: Yeah, that's true.

Helen: It's always fun when I enjoy it after

Anne: so true.

Helen: So what question do we have today?

Anne: So we have our question from Ellie today. Is it possible to oversize things? [00:08:00] Sometimes I wonder if I'm looking for metaphysical meaning when something is just life.

Helen: So that's a theory philosophical question.

Helen: Yes. So can you oversize things in. My opinion, the answer is no, because it's all spirit. Can you be too airy, fairy and ungrounded? Absolutely. So it would definitely tend, the answer would be aligned to the energy you're in of asking the question. So looking for signs all the time. If it gives you joy and it doesn't negate.

Helen: Human responsibility and right action. You're good. And if we could really awaken these human minds that we have, we would see that it's all metaphysical, that it's all connected, that there is an amazing organized divine grid that connects everything. And yet, in human [00:09:00] consciousness, we're not here to just check out in the spiritual.

Helen: We're not here to just, you know, not have preferences, just go with the flow. Always just. Let life unfold. We're here to actually choose. We're here to evolve and grow and experience and make mistakes and make messes and clean them up and feel all the emotions and make the evolutionary leap of developing the skill of choice.

Helen: So there was a time on Earth where. Spirituality was about following one guru, whether it was a, a religion, a church, a specific church or teacher, uh, spiritually or religious. One life discipline. And just to follow that, the spiritual paradigm today is have many teachers and don't give up your unique personality.

Helen: See what it is here that you're. Contributing, giving and [00:10:00] receiving at a higher level. And I personally love, you know, requesting and looking for the patterns behind the physical experiences we have. And yet I'm crystal clear that my reason for doing so is for the pleasure of it. For the connection of it.

Helen: You know, if you're looking for everything as metaphysical signs or, um. Things to protect yourself. It's, it's really not what you're looking at spiritually or religiously or, or more grounded. It's the energy you're in when you're asking the question and when you're looking. So if you feel that you can see the love of God, the holiness in life all around you, you can never be too spiritual because you could do that and still show up well as a human.

Helen: If you're looking for, oh my gosh, does this mean I should say no to this? And that, that you really wanna check, are you perceiving through a fear filter? This is why I always say, you know, use the what, why, how, [00:11:00] how, or use Cubby's seven habits. Use all seven together so that these spiritual laws can guide you into right action in human form, and the more you're in right action through spiritual laws.

Helen: The more connections, the more spiritually guided, um, whether you call that angels or, or Jesus or God or the universe, the, the more you will feel the synchronicities, the peace. And so I think the one big game here, if you're talking metaphysics, is how can you fully enjoy the embodied experience? How can you love being alive?

Helen: How can you love having choices and decisions and mistakes and solutions? How can you fully participate both as a human being, body, earth bound, and as a beautiful light, a [00:12:00] spiritual light of the divine? So in my opinion, no, you can't be too spiritual, um, unless you're using it as a, an excuse to avoid human responsibility.

Anne: So how, what, what's an example of someone using it to avoid human responsibility?

Helen: So one big one that seems pretty common is, you know, on it not to make anything wrong because it's all a progression, right? So people first get exposed to law of attraction and positive thinking, well, you positive thinking by itself if it's not deeply understood.

Helen: It can just be an excuse to let go, you know, just to let everything be okay. Which if it works for you and it keeps you in peace, that would be great. And yet, usually that's not how it works because it ends up repressing true emotion. There's no authenticity. It's over the top. It's, um, it, [00:13:00] you skip the part of doing the logistics to make things work smoothly.

Helen: Right, like you and I work together on this podcast, we show up on time. You do all the logistics that make it consistently available in the same way you have the format right. That is a beautiful mix of spirituality and groundedness, humanness. Right. We're using linear time. We're using a template we're of, of the layout.

Helen: We're using a consistency in physical form through the setup of each podcast, right? Sometimes people will misconstrue going with the flow. Is there a spiritual? And it's just like we come on and just chat away about whatever. Popped in our head in the moment, and that can be good too. What I would say is ask the question at the end of every day or every interaction, do [00:14:00] I feel uplifted, empowered, or curious?

Helen: Right? Sometimes you're not gonna feel uplifted and empowered because you're gonna feel challenged. And in the challenge, you wanna be curious, how could I, I don't like the way that felt. How could I do it differently? I don't like the way they responded. How did I show up? Well in that, you know, there's this earth part that's about having a physical, tangible target and goal, your mission statement, right in each identity or for your overall life.

Helen: And that's how you contribute back. You give and receive through a direction that you choose. So. An example is if, if you've suddenly realize, Hey, there's a pattern I see every, you know, I am feeling unheard. Let's say that's a pattern. All of a sudden it feels like nobody can hear me, no matter what I'm saying.

Helen: Nobody's listening. Well, that's not the invitation to be all positive and affirm at a way. It's the invitation to look [00:15:00] at why am I not listening to myself? You know, what is the gift and the invitation here. So being positive is fabulous, affirming gratitude, you know 'em all for that. And also ask good questions because it's not about just going with the flow all the time.

Helen: It's about choosing how you want to evolve and expand. And the more good, more happy, more contributing, more receiving, more learning, more creativity version of you.

Anne: Yeah. So really not just like taking a concept and, and blanket applying it to every situation. It's about asking learning tools and then asking questions.

Anne: And then use

Helen: it. Yes. And, and it's all about how do I expand spiritually or in Christ consciousness or in love and goodness and still pay my bills on time and put gas in the car. [00:16:00] And if you're a mother, give my children an, you know, safety. And consistency so they can grow up with self-esteem and function in the world.

Helen: Right? It's always a big mix of it. It's a fascinating time because we have the opportunity to be amazingly spiritual beings, and yet we don't have any disciples. Most of us listening don't even have a wife, which would be handy. Um, it's. It's an amazing time on earth to be as spiritual as we can be and continuously expand in it and be grounded and, you know, pay taxes and mortgages and car insurance and be on schedules and, and grow a business or be a great employee and show up on time and do work well.

Helen: It's such a unique time. It's amazing.

Anne: We had another question that's actually really similar to this that I'd love to probably just tie in together. Jess was asking, what's the difference between being spiritually surrendered and just giving up? How do I know [00:17:00] if I'm in flow or just avoiding effort, which I feel like is really similar.

Anne: It's the same question pretty much.

Helen: Yeah. Yeah. And so giving up is. You're you coming from the place of, Ugh, this is too much. I hate it. I'm overwhelmed. I'm anxious. I don't wanna function. It's, it comes from a scarcity, right? Spiritually surrendering. I love that term. That is such great words, Jess.

Helen: Spiritually surrendering is, it's not that it feels great, it's a literal choice to say, you know what, God, your will be done. Fill me with grace so that I don't resist and fight against you. And what's my part in this? Because we always have a part on earth. Mm-hmm. You know, sometimes it's to forgive even if you don't speak that out loud.

Helen: Sometimes it's to work harder. Go back to school. Move, you know, [00:18:00] change your, your career, change your friends. Sometimes it's, you know, let's get in shape, or, oh, I have a disease. How do, so let's use a disease. That one might be a little easier. Say you have a limiting disease, it's gonna change your whole life.

Helen: And everybody who lives with you, their lives are changing too. Spiritual surrender would be. I don't like this. I never wanted this. I dislike being a burden to my family. I am grieving everything I've lost in health and freedom. And you know what? If this is your divine will for me, please teach me how to do this with grace and love and light, even though it's so hard that spiritual surrendering giving up would be.

Helen: Being in victim consciousness, feeling sorry for yourself, throwing it all on the doctors to cure you, and if it doesn't work, it's their fault. Um, being frustrated that nobody in your family understands you, and that's their [00:19:00] fault. It goes into victim blame. So, you know, it takes us time to discern these energies and to empower ourself with spiritual surrender.

Helen: And it's tricky I think in our culture because we keep thinking we have control over things, which we really don't. And so could you say yes to life and God with all its challenge and hardship and still show up for the best outcome anyway? That would be the difference.

Anne: Yeah. I think that makes a lot of sense.

Anne: It's, it's not about just laying down and and taking whatever comes just laying down in the current Yeah. It's about. Almost a collaboration of, okay, this is coming my way. How do I, how do I navigate it?

Helen: And my wording is always, oh, look at this. Now I'm in this, how am I gonna show up in this? Mm-hmm. Right.

Helen: When big things, they come, I mean, life is like that. It's always, well, okay, I [00:20:00] don't know what that means, what that's gonna be like. I know what my business is. My business is, how do I show up in it? That's the spiritual surrender of accepting reality, and yet it's also the personal responsibility of putting effort in to have the best possible experience for yourself and everybody else involved.

Anne: Do you have a question for Ellie and Jess?

Helen: Jess and Ellie? You know, I would just invite you to say. Can I feel connected to the love that is the divine creation source? Can I feel my connection to my creator? And in that connection, what can I physically choose to follow through with to honor that feeling place?

Helen: And it does get easier if you make it a habit to always ask that. It doesn't matter if you're cooking, cleaning, driving, uh, waking up in the middle of the night with [00:21:00] and not able to go back to sleep. If you always reach first to connect to the love, the gratitude, the joy, and then say, okay, physically how am I gonna show up in this challenge?

Helen: Or how am I gonna show up in this opportunity? Or how am I gonna show up in this invitation? Because this doesn't all have to be a challenge. It could be going to a party. And you could spiritually surrender. I don't know what's gonna happen and how am I gonna show up? What do I wanna do? And that's where, you know, the creation of the What, why, how, how always helps me align to a spiritual connection, a metaphysical concept of being the best version of me and radiating love and also the physical logistical steps that would take

Anne: I love you said.

Anne: Um. Reaching for the pace. I'm like, if I could reach for the pace first every time, especially in my parenting, that that would be my goal. I would love that. Well, the nice

Helen: thing is your boys will give [00:22:00] you years of opportunities to practice.

Anne: I am so lucky I get to, I get to really be challenged through that.

Anne: So. Awesome. Well, Ellie and Jess, thank you so much for sending in questions that complimented each other so we could Yeah, that was perfect. Close together. Yeah, that was great. Alright, anything else you wanna add in there?
