Anne: [00:00:00] Hi, I am Anne, and I'm Helen. And welcome to Metaphysical Street Smarts. What is Metaphysical Street Smarts? Helen
Helen: Physical is everything you can see with your human eye. You can see, touch, feel, taste as a human. Metaphysical. Is that what you cannot see? Wifi microwave energy. When you feel somebody staring at you, you can't really feel eyesight.
Helen: So metaphysical is that what you can't perceive with the human eye? Street smarts means let's take the woowoo, the energetic, the airy fairy, and add it to logic so that you can have a better experience of yourself. In this one.
Anne: As always, we invite you to take what blesses you and leave the rest. We're so glad you're here.
Anne: Let's jump in. Hi, Helen. Hey Anne. How are you? How are you doing this week? I'm doing very well. Thank you. [00:01:00] Uh, just getting back from some, uh, family trip. A camping trip, and. Getting reorganized here. So it's been chaotic and fun.
Helen: Have you been, it's uh, yeah, I think I've said before, you know, I always taught my boys having fun is hard work. Mm-hmm. Which is really cool because now as adults they don't think hard work is a bad thing, which is good, you know, because it takes a lot of organization and chaos to create wonderful trips and vacations.
Helen: You know, hobbies, anything, takes some, some focus to really bring it to that level.
Anne: I'm good about the, the chaos and fun on the front end. It's the chaos that follows me home that I'm The cleanup still. Yeah. That I'm still working with.
Anne: But how's your week gone?
Helen: Oh my gosh. That just makes [00:02:00] me have a memory. We came home from boating once and. The maid had come while we were gone. And I don't think I had it maid all the time. Then it was just the house was too busy and full. But anyway, I open, I opened the door and looked in and then I shut the door.
Helen: While I'm on the porch, my husband says, what's going on? I'm like, oh my gosh, can you look? Could we, could we just leave the kids and everything out here? Which the answer's no. We had to bring in all the toys and towels and cooler and Yeah, and that. Clean, beautiful, peaceful space was totaled in minute.
Anne: That's how it goes. All
Helen: right, so what have we got cooking for today?
Anne: Yeah, so I sprung this idea on Helen very last minute, uh, for her. So we've had this idea for the cosmic nudge. Um, I was thinking that we could do an overview of the seven habits. For the next, my favorite? Yeah. For the next few [00:03:00] episodes, and we'll just kind of, we're gonna tie it in with Helen's book, the Logical Law of Attraction, and, uh, go through and tie that in.
Anne: You do such a good job of taking these spiritual laws and, and combining them with logic and. It just felt like a really good way to tie up our first season here. Oh, our first season goes into episode 52, so you know, that's kind of how we ended up with Metaphysical Street Smarts, was the spiritual laws, plus the logical side gives us these metaphysical street smarts.
Anne: So I thought it would be really good to go over this and kind of give the foundation and bring it back around. Awesome. I love it. Bring it. Cool. Well, so our first one, we're gonna do the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. The overview, we're gonna kind of lift [00:04:00] some material from Helen's book and go from there.
Anne: So, most everyone in this world has heard of Stephen Covey's Seven Habits for Highly Affected People, and the many iterations of that.
Helen: And if you haven't, just Google it.
Anne: Yeah, you can Google it. There are classes, there are episodes in our podcast. It's kind of, from what I mean, from what you've said to me, Helen, it's kind of the, the foundation of what you started teaching from.
Helen: Well, it's what literally changed my life out of suffering and victim consciousness into spiritual growth and evolution. And it took me two years. Of reading his book every day because I didn't know any grownups around me at all that that represented these thought patterns, the change in paradigm. I just couldn't get it.
Helen: I just kept reading it though, and I was [00:05:00] blessed because I had, I was doing, um, childcare in my home then school aged kids, so I got to like hands on. Attempt. I don't think, I think it took me a lot of practice, uh, implement what I was, was trying to get outta the book. And again, it was really slow. I didn't understand it.
Helen: And then fast forward, there were clients I would work with in coaching and I'd be like, oh, you're in a really good place. You don't need more tapping. That's clearing. What you need is to know how to show up in life. So read, read Co seven habits, but then I had a student say, look, I read the book, I don't get it.
Helen: Can you teach it? So then I was like, okay. And I'm thinking, but Covey's such a great teacher, right? And so I taught one habit a week for seven weeks, and at the end of it. Everybody said, can you teach it again and go slower? And then it just evolved into the logical law of attraction tying in these [00:06:00] spiritual principles.
Helen: Now, Kaby only says that one place, it's in the preface of his book that these are spiritual principles, and what that means is. That they make sense because the opposite is what you would not want, and they're eternally true through any generation culture, time on earth, with organizations or individuals, which is how Covey came across them.
Helen: He was studying success in businesses, organizations, and individuals and relationships, and he found that these principles are always in a pattern of success. And then he named them habits and was able to market that and bless him. I mean, I will always be grateful to the gift that he brought to our planet, the awareness of this and it, it did change my life and then I didn't realize I was living it.
Helen: And it's part of what I teach and coach, because it works. The results are great.
Anne: I'm really excited to [00:07:00] dive in more because I have read it. I've got the kids version and, uh, and teach, read it with my kids. But I love the opportunity to do a deeper dive over the next few weeks and go into it because there's always more.
Anne: There's always. More layers. So happy to learn whatever's coming up for us here. Uh, okay. Well then for our first, our first habit is be proactive habit number one, uh, in logical law of attraction. Your post notes say, be the one being reacted to, not the one reacting. Remember that you can be in control of yourself.
Anne: You can choose your actions over instinctual reactions, which. Right out the gate, I'm being called out. Um, cool. Great. That sounds great. Would love to do that. How, how do I do that? [00:08:00] That's my question.
Helen: So one thing that emissaries have always channeled through me and in the taps and um, is they say that one of our life purposes this time around is to develop the skill of choice.
Helen: And it is a new thing on earth for humanity to have endless, unbelievable choice. Like it's crazy how much choice we have and we're not that skilled in it. And so it's when you develop the stamina and skill of human choice, that you can really be more proactive than reactive.
Anne: I think it's that initial piece that's like, yes, but how,
Helen: and so that's a beautiful question.
Helen: So the, the how is understanding all seven principles and the knowing that it's when you mesh all seven together, that you develop a high level of choice. Not [00:09:00] just spontaneous choice of a, of a yes and a no. So this is the only difference in Covey's original books that he, he doesn't say anywhere, that it's all seven together.
Helen: That gives you success. He broke them down very separately, which is a great way to learn them. And yet what I found through experience and teaching it and other people, you know, trying it on for size too. It's the clarity that comes when you utilize all seven. Mm-hmm. And then of course, I created the shortcut.
Helen: The what, why, how, how in the book, tell me where you're stuck. But to really be good at that or to go as deep as you want to and really be as a habit, as a natural response, proactive instead of reactive. You have to educate the mind. And these principles work. Let's slow down enough to make sure we're utilizing all of them before we.
Helen: Respond to a situation or comment.
Anne: And I think [00:10:00] even the, the piece of utilizing the what, why, how, how the actual utilization, the, the thinking about what you are wanting to change or, or get better at is the first habit is the. Proactivity.
Helen: It's also the end in mind. Yes. Yeah. It's all integrative.
Anne: It's, it's all in there together.
Anne: And just by thinking about it, that's your, you're starting already.
Helen: And, and so the beauty of it is learning these principles, and I highly recommend Covey's book. I suggest that people read it once a year for five years in a row, because each year they'll be at a different level of practice. Right. And a different level of comprehension and a different level of proof, they would've proved to themselves that it's paying off.
Helen: And so, yeah, I love his work. And then I love, [00:11:00] you know, explaining to people this is very logical and you're already doing it in every area of your life that you have the, the results you want. Mm-hmm.
Anne: Yeah.
Helen: Every area of your life that's working for you, you're doing this at an unconscious level. Let's bring it into consciousness so you can apply it in the messy areas.
Anne: Yeah, I think that's such an interesting pace that I forgot about. So thank you for mentioning that. Like you already have the result of how you're already utilizing this unconsciously, so let's make it conscious.
Helen: That's it. And then you can apply it to everything.
Anne: Yeah. You're already successful. It's just what's your target.
Helen: Yeah. Your next target.
Anne: My next target.
Helen: Yeah. You're already using all seven principles for everything that's working. Whether it's business, relationship, household driving, vacation, all seven principles are running behind the scenes when it turns out the way you were intending. What we [00:12:00] wanna do is learn well, what is that formula?
Helen: And apply it in the arenas where we have some kind of energetic, emotional, or belief system block to success.
Anne: I do, I you, my 2025 word is success. And I do love, you know, I've heard these words before and I'm at a, I'm at another level and I'm on a fast track for this one, and I just like saying I'm already successful.
Anne: Just the reminder, I'm so excited to do this even more now, I'm like, okay, book club time. I guess I'm gonna pick up. I'll go grab my copy of Seven Habits and start reading it along with this, because I'm ready for my next, I'm ready to receive it at the next level. So here we go. Um, habit number two, end in mind.
Anne: You have a summary here. Have a high level of clarity for your target mission, [00:13:00] individual goals, and your overall life's work.
Helen: So that's three different things, just so we're clear. Okay. You wanna have clarity on anything you're aiming for that's new for you, whether it's a vacation or, I mean, the boys will be going to what school soon yet?
Helen: Yeah. Yep. Kindergarten and preschool. So think of it, you don't just like throw 'em in there in your, they're swimsuits. You figure out snacks and. You know, lunchboxes and clothing and backpack, whatever they need, you know, shoes and crayons, all the supplies. So you know, you have a target, not just if kids are in preschool, kids are in, how do we set this up for success by your mother's mission statement?
Helen: Safe and fun, right? And so you're utilizing these principles. You just, it's easier if you take a minute and bring clarity to it. Right. [00:14:00] What's my end in mind? It's not just get 'em to kindergarten. It's like get them to kindergarten. So they and I both have a good experience. Totally. Right, totally. So your end in mind, you really want a lot of clarity on that.
Helen: What, how does it fit as my mother mission statement? How does it fit for the boys have different personalities and different groups they'll be in and different interests, and your overall view of life in general. You know when you can get a level of clarity of why they're going, what it's about for you, how you're preparing them, why you're choosing that prep, you will see that their transition will be easier.
Helen: Clarity is this beautiful magic juice that just makes the quality of experience for all involved better. Amazing.
Anne: We've got habit number three. First things first, which. This one is one of the ones that comes naturally for me. I'm a, I'm a, I love a, a good list, so I'm [00:15:00] prioritizing as a, a good one for me, and I love getting more into it.
Anne: So prioritize your activities by what's most important now to move you toward your goal and avoid time sucks or drama that's caused by acting in spheres that are not your business.
Helen: Yeah. And so that, you know, it takes us a while to really a, again, not where you're already having success, but in new ventures, sometimes we get out of clarity when we're trying to get other people to do what we think is right and it's not our business.
Helen: We don't get to control the teachers at preschool or the times they pick or their, their requirements. You know, so in anything, there's your business, which is what you think, say, feel, and do, and there's other people's business. You wanna be sure that you're putting the first things first that are really what you have control over.
Anne: Uh, we have habit number four [00:16:00] is, is that what it actually is? Is it called win, win, win?
Helen: No, it's actually with Covey. It's a win-win, win-win. I put the third win because when you actually create something that doesn't harm others, but adds goodness to more than just yourself, right? That's what a win is.
Helen: It's not an ego win, it's the expansion of good. There's a third win that we never really talk about. That's how it blesses mass consciousness.
Anne: Mm-hmm.
Helen: I love that addition. So like if in course in miracles, the word create means the expansion of love. So humans create. When they using that word symbol from course of miracles, it's a creation when what you choose doesn't harm others, but blesses others too.
Helen: So if you feel good and your boys feel good, it's gonna bless the school. It's gonna bless their friends. It's gonna bless you when you go to work and you're not whacked outta your mind. With stress and fear, do you see how the wind trickles out [00:17:00] even bigger than just the two people that you might think are involved?
Anne: Absolutely. Yeah. That's how it, it gets made into something sustainable and enjoyable.
Helen: Yeah. Right.
Anne: For everyone. Yeah. And blesses and makes it easier for other people to be in that as well. Having that example or just even that resonance already existing. Totally
Helen: right. And think of the preschool, you know, you want them to be proactive, set up the room, set up the curriculum, set up the rules.
Helen: And the cleaning and be organized, and you want them to have the end in mind that parents and children are safe and happy with the outcome, and you want them to do first things first. Get those kids comfortable that first week. Mm-hmm. Right. You can see that these spiritual laws are very logical and grounded.
Anne: Okay. Habit number five is seek first to understand, keep an open mind and [00:18:00] practice empathy by respecting that other people are coming from a different paradigm. I do struggle with this.
Anne: My husband will attest to that.
Helen: Well, you're in good company. This was Stephen Covey's, hardest one. According to his kids in the 25th edition, his children wrote. And the preface about him, and this was his hardest one. So you're in good company, my friend. And so what does it really mean? Like when you're talking street smarts, right?
Helen: It means that don't assume you know everything. No one else thinks like you, no one else has your memories, your personality, your chemistry in that one moment. And so if you're not reaching a solution energy with someone or you know, in something, stop and get more information. And how do you seek to understand, ask questions, Hey, what's your target here?
Helen: What would be a win for you? Or what would be, what is it you need [00:19:00] before we can move forward? Or what is it you think happened? Because I don't understand where you're coming from. You know, there's many different situations and ways, but the, the law, the spiritual law that works across all time and energy is if you can understand somebody else's paradigm, their target, what they're putting first, what they're hoping to end up with, then you can speak to that.
Helen: Or you can say, no, I do not agree. This will not work for us. If you don't find out. Where they're stuck or what they're intending or where their energy is. You could talk forever and it'll never come to a solution or a good way of being resolved because you're talking about something that they're not hearing.
Helen: Make sense? Yeah. Do you have memories of this?
Anne: Yeah. 'cause you saw my eyes glaze over. I'm like, oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I have so much work to [00:20:00] do. Yeah, totally.
Helen: And you know it like with elders, when I was helping my mom at the end of her life, the last bit of it, and we like moved her three times in a year.
Helen: It was just a lot. And my mother didn't have a clear end in mind at all. And so I would speak it, mom. My, my goal is that I give you everything you ask for that makes sense and is safe for you. And, and I would, except for sometimes I'd say, mom, on this one, I have to say no because that's not possible. And yet always my goal is to give you the experience you want that's the best for you.
Helen: And not only speaking it, did it help her refocus? It helped me be more at peace because it was, it was often very frustrating with somebody who didn't have a clear end in mind. You know, she was more driven by her moods and she was older and forgetful, so it was kind of hard. So when I would [00:21:00] keep speaking what my goal was, it kept me more in alignment and out of frustration.
Anne: Yeah. 'cause staying in your business, you can't make her think the way that would help her have the best experience. No, especially not at that point.
Helen: So seeking first to understand, like, look at your boys. They're different ages. They have different skill sets, different levels of intellect that's developed.
Helen: Certain parts of their brains are turned on. If you don't seek to understand that they're gonna be different every year because of natural aging, you could really drive yourself crazy.
Anne: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. That's how, yeah. I don't want them getting stuck in a, a. In a cycle, so, well, I mean, whatever, can't really control, but if I can help it, I'd love to help 'em not be stuck for an extended period of time.
Anne: Um, habit number six is synergy. [00:22:00] And you said, I consider this to be a side effect or added benefit of applying the principles, especially staying in your business and following the universal laws of giving and receiving synergy Is an extra benefit created when two or more different people or groups work together?
Helen: Yes, and so, you know, synergy I think is the side effect, the outcome. It's this new energy that's created from two people who are whole. Right. And um, and yet of course I honor Covey's work because it changed my life in such a profound and profitable way for me personally and spiritually. And so synergy takes two people who are independent coming together in interdependence, and then they create something that wouldn't exist without the two coming together.
Helen: So synergy is this beautiful, beautiful creation. The expansion of good when you [00:23:00] bring two whole beings together to create something different. And we do it even with things, right? You take, uh, to create art, you need at least two things. You need something, two different textures, two different, you know.
Helen: Physical aspects to put together to create something new music. You need more than one note and you bring these notes together and it will create a melody that would not exist without these separate notes that can be named individually.
Anne: I hadn't thought about that, but of course it's so obvious when you say it.
Anne: Alright, habit number seven. Sharpen the saw. Stay in the upward spiral by continuing to improve all areas of your life and avoid complacency or plateaus.
Helen: Yeah, so think of the upward spiral. If you're not on earth, if you're not growing, if [00:24:00] you're not learning, if you're not choosing, if you're not experiencing, then you're contracting and you're becoming stagnant and you're dying.
Helen: I mean, it's always, there's no neutrality on earth in this place of duality. And so sharpen the saws about getting new interests, new hobbies, new skill levels, like even learning the habits. Like you said, you wanna reread the book. That's a whole new sharpening the saw because you're different today than the last time you read it.
Helen: Going deeper, going broader, applying it with more grace and ease, letting it bless you even more. So sharpen the saw. The interesting thing with humans is we never, we literally never feel fulfilled unless we've had a challenge. And so if you aren't choosing challenges, you know life will throw some at you, and yet it's so delightful to choose them.
Helen: Learn, learn a new [00:25:00] something, how to cook, uh, how to do a podcast, learn how to do relationship better or money better, or vacation's more exciting. There's just so much. And when you're busy learning and sharpening the saw for something good that you've chosen, you are expanding your capacity to love and enjoy life in a bigger, broader way.
Anne: I, and I mean, is that, why, is that part of why things that maybe used to feel really challenging and personal maybe aren't, don't feel as challenging and personal anymore? Because I, I have embraced this, challenging myself in a, in ways that I want to be challenged and grow instead of.
Helen: Instead of reacting to the stuff you don't like.
Anne: Yeah. I mean, yeah, because stuff I don't like still comes, but it doesn't feel maybe as [00:26:00] big.
Helen: Well, that's because once you start using your mind as a tool to be proactive to to implement these principles on purpose, with purpose, the emotional body doesn't get traumatized as often. It's only when we feel victimized, when we feel like we have no choice, when we feel like life's living us, instead of us participating.
Helen: In life that we, our poor emotional bodies get so traumatized that we're like a big open wound that everything triggers. I mean, I'm exaggerating, but I think we can all relate. Yes.
Anne: Yeah, we've all been there. I assume I have. Okay, cool. Well, so over the next few weeks. We'll, uh, dive deeper on this. Perfect.
Anne: I'm there. Alrighty, Helen, thank you so much for another week. I'm excited to go into this more. Me too. Okay, we'll see you next week. Alright. Thank you everybody. Bye. Bye.
